Broken toys become a unique mobile for kids
The development of Stafrói began in 2021. We did not want to add stuff to the world at all, as there is enough of all kinds of plastic that needs to be disposed of and a huge amount of toys end up in the trash. We wanted to make a beautiful mobile with a child's name and let the circular economy be the guiding light in that idea and development work. It has now succeeded with the company's entrepreneurial mindset of Plasplan, design studio and plastic recycling, which won
Iceland's Design Award in 2022 for its vision, design and support for the chemical cycle. Not only for what is done well, but also for what is done right, as stated in the jury's verdict. We get broken toys from the Good Sheperd. The font and shapes in Stafrói are designed by the graphic designer Gabríel Markan. We use specially designed steel mold to melt the plastic into. The result is beautiful letters that form a name, and come in beautiful color combinations. Every Stafrói is unique. Stafrói is 100% recycled Icelandic design and 100% recyclable.
Stafrói is the idea and property of the company Heillaverk, founded by Margrét Stefánsdóttir in 2017. Margrét has extensive experience in her work with Icelandic companies, but she worked for years as marketing manager for the Blue Lagoon and PR representative for Síminn. She has also worked in marketing and promotion at the University of Iceland, to name just a few.
Production process of Stafrói
Broken toys from the Good Shepherd
We receive broken toys from kids in Iceland and in cooperation with The Good Shepherd, a utility market whose goal is to reuse and reduce waste. We contribute to the chemical cycle by recycling these useless toys before they end up in the trash.
The toys crushed and melted at Plastplan
The toys from The Good Sheperd are recycled by the entrepreneurial company Plastplan and the plastic is sorted by color. The color mixture is then melted into steel molds that have been specially designed to produce letters and shapes designed by Gabríel Markan, a graphic designer.
A unique mobile for kids comes alive
Stafrói is handmade with the help of machinery at Plastplan. It is put together according to the wishes of each individual with a special name and selected shapes to decorate a children's room or other space.
