Upcycled Wonder: A Unique Mobile Made from Repurposed Toys
The idea for Stafrói was born in 2021 from a simple, yet powerful belief: the world doesn't need more plastic — it needs more purpose.
With that in mind, we set out to create something meaningful, beautiful, and sustainable. Not just another toy, but a personalized mobile that celebrates a child's name — crafted entirely from recycled plastic and shaped by creativity, care, and circular thinking.
Stafrói is guided by the magic of reuse.
Discarded toys, lovingly collected from the Good Shepherd charity, are transformed into joyful, colorful letters through a unique process. The plastic is melted into a custom steel mold, forming one-of-a-kind name mobiles — vibrant, playful, and full of character.
Every Stafrói is entirely unique. No two color combinations are the same, just like no two children are. The typeface and playful forms were specially designed by graphic designer Gabríel Markan, bringing a modern, design-forward flair to each creation.
This vision came to life with the support of Plasplan, an award-winning Icelandic design studio and plastic recycling pioneer. Plasplan was honored with the Icelandic Design Award in 2022 for their innovative approach to circular production and commitment to doing not just what looks good — but what is right.
Behind it all is Heillaverk, the creative company founded by Margrét Stefánsdóttir in 2017. With deep roots in Icelandic marketing and branding — from the Blue Lagoon to Síminn and the University of Iceland — Margrét brings years of experience and heart to every project.

With the help of children and families across Iceland — and in partnership with The Good Shepherd, a heart-led reuse market — we collect once-loved, forgotten toys and give them a brand-new purpose.
Instead of ending up as waste, these cherished remnants are transformed into beautiful name mobiles that celebrate individuality, imagination, and circular design.
Each piece is a small act of care — for the planet, for our children, and for the stories we choose to tell.

The plastic is thoughtfully sorted by color, creating playful palettes full of charm and surprise. These vibrant mixtures are then melted down and poured into custom steel molds — specially crafted to form letters and shapes designed by the talented graphic designer Gabríel Markan.
